Disposing of Your Fireplace Ashes
With the colder months here, many people are using their fireplace and wood burning stoves. Here are some reminders on how to properly dispose of your ashes.
Let ashes cool: Wait at least 24 hours for ashes to cool completely before removing them from the firebox.
Carefully place them in a metal container: Use a metal bucket—never use plastic containers, which can ignite.
Keep away from flammable materials: Place the container at least 10 feet away from your home, other buildings, and anything that can burn.
